I lived in South Korea and Australia before settling in Rochester Hills, MI, which is where I did most of my growing up. I finished my undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan (go blue!). Before starting medical school at MSUCOM, I was also a scribe in the ER where I was first exposed to the chaos of this work environment. Not knowing what's going to walk through those doors and having the privilege to be with patients in their most vulnerable states is why I chose to go into EM. In my spare time, I enjoy all things sports, exercising, movies especially horror, drumming, chess, and searching for the best pizza.

Hey y’all! I was born and raised in New Mexico but have traveled extensively and lived in numerous states/countries. I graduated from St. Georges University, Grenada. I have a Masters in Forensic Science and Toxicology from University of Florida (Go Gators!). In my spare time, I enjoy teaching Zumba, snuggling with our four cats and one dog, and going to sporting events with my husband. He is a big sports guy, going for sports management and I fully support anything that involves fun, food, friends, and beer. I fell in love with emergency medicine because of the variety of patients we encounter, the unexpected, the fast pace, and the organized chaos that is the emergency room. I am excited to continue to explore Michigan and grow as a physician.
Dr. Eryk Hakman
Before medical school, I was an ER tech in Los Angeles, California. Thats where my love for EM began. I chose Ascension Macomb-Oakland because it's one of the busiest and highest acuity community hospitals in the Detroit area! On my spare time I enjoy all the outdoor activities and great restaurants/bars the city has to offer.

Hi! My name is Sam. I was born and raised in West Bloomfield, MI. I love spending time with my husband, family, and their dog, Jax! On my days off, I enjoy kayaking and exploring our land of lakes, puzzles and building LEGO.
Dr. Melissa McCarthy
Hello. I am Melissa. I took the long way to residency but couldn't be happier. Born and raised in Wisconsin. Undergrad at West Point, spent some time in the Army and then Washington DC before attending medical school at the American University of the Caribbean.
Dr. Brian Payden
I'm originally from Illinois and I love spending time with my wife and kids, hiking, and fishing. I also like spending time playing outside, grilling, and watching movies. Training at Ascension Macomb-Oakland has given me a well rounded experience with plenty of opportunities to grow and improve.
Dr. Jordan Stav
Born and raised in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Michigan State for undergrad and UMHS St Kitts for med school. I chose emergency medicine because I love that we get to immediately act to help solve the patients' medical problems. We often see quick results from procedures and actions we perform. When not working, you'll either find me on my deck grilling, with beverage in hand, or on the basketball court, tossing up bricks.
Dr. Terry Tran
My name is Terry. I consider myself a Chinese product, made in Vietnam, assembled in the USA (Chinese heritage, born in Vietnam, raised in the States). After fulfilling a long family history of soldiering, I became the first physician in the family. I discovered my love for medicine while deployed in Afghanistan, volunteering for the clinic when I’m not on patrol or guard duty. With that said, Emergency Medicine seems to fit my past, present and future endeavor perfectly. Outside of medicine, I like to scuba, practice marksmanship, travel, and eating. Also, my son has 4 paws, and his name is Snowball.
