Program Director

Graduating from Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991, I completed my Emergency Medicine Internship and Residency at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital (presently known at McLaren Oakland Hospital) in 1995. I started my career in Emergency Medicine at Macomb-Oakland Hospital directly out of residency and during that time, volunteered as the director of a free clinic while maintaining my position as a staff doc. I joined the residency program in 2010, when the EM Residency expanded to include the Warren campus, as Site Director and Core Faculty.  As our program grew, I became the Associate Program Director, and after three years became the Program Director in 2013.

I love sailboat racing, skiing, swimming and most of all, hanging out with our residents.  I count one of my greatest joys to be actively involved in the development of our residents from medical student to rock star attending.

I joined the Ascension Macomb-Oakland EM residency in 2012 as the Ultrasound Director.  I completed my residency and ultrasound fellowship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.  Following graduation, I worked in Minneapolis for six years before returning to my hometown in Michigan.  I am a registered diagnostic medical and cardiac sonographer, and am currently working on my musculoskeletal certification.  Current research areas of interest are valvular disorders diagnosed with POCUS and MSK POCUS.

Ilya Kott, MD
Core Faculty, Simulation Director

After graduating from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia I completed my residency at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit.  My first job was at Ascension Macomb. I haven't left since.  You don't leave a good place with good people. Since joining the residency as core faculty, I have been running simulation scenarios with the residents and recently established our own simulation lab with two mannequins. When I am not busy treating patients or playing with my mannequins, I am spending time at home with my wife and 5 children.
